Affordable Marine Fuel Oil Analysis by EDXRF
NEX QC Marine Fuel Analyzer is an affordable EDXRF (energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence) system specifically designed for marine fuel analysis applications. It is optimized for the routine determination of sulfur in fuel oil used onboard ships. Additionally, NEX QC Marine Fuel Analyzer can also analyze for nickel (Ni), vanadium (V), iron (Fe), and zinc (Zn), all with low limits of detection (LOD).
Under MARPOL / IMO sulfur regulations, the sulfur limit in marine fuels has been continually reduced inside and outside ECAs (emission control areas). Furthermore, the new IMO 2020 compliance for sulfur reduced the global cap on sulfur content from 3.50% wt to 0.50% wt. To meet this threshold, NEX QC Marine Fuel Analyzer is calibrated from 0.05 to 3.5% wt sulfur and is accurate to within 10s of ppm at 0.5% wt sulfur. This marine fuel tester easily meets the needs of existing ECAs and new IMO 2020 requirements as ships transition from using heavy fuel oil (HFO) fuels to low sulfur fuel oils (LSFO).
NEX QC Marine Fuel Analyzer is lightweight, compact, and does not require an external PC. The intuitive touchscreen interface, built-in printer, and optional portable roller case make it easy to use and convenient. Whether onboard a vessel or at a supply station, it’s well suited for marine fuel analysis applications and meets compliance with multiple testing methods and standards.
Compliance with IMO Sulfur Regulations and International Test Methods
Use NEX QC Marine Fuel Analyzer to determine traditional levels of sulfur in bunker fuel, marine diesel, and other fuel oils.
- ASTM D4294-10: 16 ppm – 5wt%
- ISO 20847: 30 – 500 mg/kg
- ISO 8754: 100 mg/kg – 5wt%
- IP 496: 100 mg/kg – 5wt%
- IP 336: 100 mg/kg – 5wt%
- JIS K 2541-4: 0.01 – 5wt%
Process Solutions for Marine Fuel Monitoring
In addition to the NEX QC Marine Fuel Analyzer, Applied Rigaku Technologies offers the NEX XT process sulfur analyzer for in-line sulfur analysis for marine fuel monitoring and blending. As ships switch to marine gas oil (MGO) and efforts continue to lower and reduce sulfur from marine fuels, NEX XT can help ensure IMO sulfur limits are met with a sulfur detection range of 200 parts-per-million (ppm) to 6wt%. It offers complete sulfur analysis needs of blending operations, bunkering terminals, and more.
